Have You Tried a New Approach of Teaching Music Improvisation?
Editorials News | Aug-08-2017
Dr Michele Biasutti, Associate Professor at the University of Padua in Italy, has stated that improvisation is being taught in music education and often based on the development of techniques.
The researchers focused on a literature review. The scientists stated that the aim of the study was to develop a model that looks at developing processes for improvisation that enhance creativity. Moreover, a course oriented teaching approach for improvisation in music opens new panoramas for education and enhances creativity.
The scientists describes that improvisation is a multifaceted activity that involves various dimensions, creativity and performance behaviors in real-time. It also requires activities such as sensory and perceptual encoding, motor control and performance monitoring as well as storing and memory.
This process approach motivates students to think about their creative processes and to self-assess their experiences. In the past, teaching and learning contained information being passed-on, memorized and repeated. This process will help students to find their own knowledge by using information in creative ways.
