Editorials News | Oct-02-2019
It’s 2nd October and we all are aware of the national holiday today as this day is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti because Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who is the Father of our Nation, was born on this day on October 2, 1869. Here are some facts related with this.
Mohandas Gandhi was born in the pre-independent era when the British rule became ruthless and cunning while putting millions and thousands of Indians suffer through immense pain. Gandhi studied and read law in England and further practised it in South Africa for several years where he made himself perfect in his philosophy of Satyagraha (truth) and ahimsa which is non-violence.
After returning to India, he soon became an activist in India's on-going struggle for freedom. He did not like the fact that the great nation of India was treated as a colony, and was ruled by the British, but he also did not want a violent war to decide the outcome for this.
Gandhi strongly believed in non-violence and he then led the independence struggle by doing peaceful protests which were well planned out and were incredibly effective. His firm implementation regarding his beliefs on such a great political scale awed the whole world.
It's totally simple to say that one is non-violent personally, but to apply such thing as a thought to form major change at such a larger level was something unheard of before. Thus, he was given the title of Mahatma as Mahatma means great soul.
People offers prayer tributes throughout the country and several schools and colleges hold programs to celebrate and respect his legacy. A way to enjoy it could just be by honouring the great man and his unique thoughts. Reading books, studying and knowing about the works of the world was one of those things which Gandhi liked doing. One could do these to honour him. Also, another greatest tribute which you could give this leader is by practising non-violence and by loving every human, irrespective of his caste and creed. It is very important to learn about Gandhi by reading and learning the books he wrote and also from some good documentaries. After all, what we had learn in school is just a small summary and it's important to take out a day to reflect on our life and lessons of one so great who has shaped the destiny of our nation and has inspired the whole world.
