India is a diverse land and many amazing festivals are celebrated with great pomp and show in this country. We have a variety of festivals which are not popular enough but hold equal importance in their specific religion, one such festival is Jamai Shasti. Jamai Shasti is a festival of Bengal and it depicts the beautiful relationship of son-in-law with his in laws. The name Jamai means son-in-law and Shasti means the sixth day of shukla paksh according to the Hindu calendar. This is the day when a party is organized by the in-laws and they invite over their daughter and her husband. The popular festival is celebrated to lay foundation of a strong family bond and relationship. Mother-in-laws cook variety of dishes and honor their son-in-laws with a feast which includes an important dish Hilsa fish.

He is welcomed in a traditional way with a phota of curd on his forehead and tie a yellow thread on their right wrist. The thread is called Shasti Suto which is coloured in yellow with the help of turmeric and consists of blessings from Ma Shasti who takes care of her children. Son-in-laws are the centre of attention on this particular day and he thoroughly enjoys the special treatment he receives from his in-laws.
