Manu Gulati: A Delhi Government School Teacher Conferred Martha Farrell Award 2019

Manu, a Delhi Government school teacher has been consistently striving hard in breaking the stereotypes and transforming the education landscape for the Gen Z. She has played a pivotal role in empowering the young girls, so that they could receive formal school education to the core. She has also been working with boys and girls at government schools in sensitizing them about gender neutrality and bringing a positive change in society. She is placing her best foot forward in changing the overall scenario of learning and boosting the neophytes with her novel approach.

Manu Gulati, a Delhi govt school teacher has been conferred the Martha Farrell award 2019 for promoting gender quality and women’s empowerment at its best. She has been very much instrumental in making education easily accessible to the young girls. She has also been working with boys and girls at government schools in sensitizing them about gender neutrality.

Gulati, who is also a teacher with the Directorate of Education, collaborates with America India Foundation’s “Market Aligned Skills Training Program”, through which she facilitates training programs for beauticians, sales girls, weavers, etc. in Jalandhar, Punjab; Betul, Madhya Pradesh and in Baramullah, Kashmir.

 “It is an honor to receive the Martha Farrell Award. I am proud that my work to ensure equitable access to education for girls and gender sensitization with students and parents has been recognised. As a mentor-teacher, I will continue to promote holistic teaching methods that empower and instill self-confidence in girls.” said Manu Gulati.

In the Gender Equality category, the award went to Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti (MJAS), a women-led organisation which started as a collective of rural women and, eventually, transitioned into a registered organisation in 2000 to fight against domestic violence.

About Martha Farrell Award

The Martha Farrell Awards began in the year 2017. Co-sponsored by Rizwan Adatia Foundation (RAF) and Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and supported by Martha Farrell Foundation (MFF), the award is established in the memory of Dr. Martha Farrell, a prominent activist for gender equality and women’s empowerment. It’s a first-of-its-kind initiative to discover, recognize and honor mid-career individuals and committed institutions, which have made valuable contributions in the areas of women’s empowerment, gender equality or feminism in everyday life. The award gives prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh to each of the winners in two categories – Most promising individual (any gender), Best organisation for Gender Equality.
