Model United Nations

‘Model UN trains today's students to be tomorrow's leaders. Students who do model UN would one day surely change the world.”

Model United Nations commonly known as MUN or Model UN is a version of the UN (United Nations). It offers the youth an opportunity and a platform where they can debate, but their opinions, and takes decision. The main reason why one should participate in Model UN is that it helps an individual to develop leadership skills and to broaden one’s knowledge. It acts as an exercise for youth to do research, think in critical situations, and in public speaking.

Model UN grants an opportunity to an individual to represent a particular country. The participant or the person who represents a country is known as the delegate. MUN has various committees that discuss on different topics or agendas. Few committees are UNGA (United Nations General Assembly), UNSC (United Nations Security Council), UNHRC (United Nations Human Rights Council), etc. Each agenda has a motive and discussion on the same is done.  During the session delegates generally have a debate. Delegates usually talk about the various international relationships of a particular country. At the end of the committee, voting takes place to draft resolutions. These will act as the conclusion of the committee. The entire power of the conference of a committee is in the hands of the Executive Board. It basically supervises all the discussion and debates, judges a delegate on his capability to answer diplomatically and to defend his country as well as it makes sure the smooth working of the committee. EB or the Executive Board is a group of 3-4 people maximum.

In the last, we can conclude by saying that MUN grants you the opportunity to get exposed to something new and something different. It makes you think diplomatically and think in crucial situations.
