National Education Policy Drafted by K. Kasturirangan Committee is Ready

Recently Shri Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD) inaugurated the 31st Convocation organized in Goa University at Panaji, Goa along with Governor of Goa, Smt. Mridula Sinha, Vice Chancellor of Goa University and Professor Varun Sahani to address the people on this occasion.
The HRD minister evaluated that Report drafted by K Kasturirangan Committee which is now ready and the Government will surface National Education Policy in the coming time soon. The HRD minister also demonstrated that National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) which will be applicable for the small universities around the country. Union Government is looking forward to raise the levels and surface new directions to the control and evaluate education system so as to make it more efficient. Research, Innovation and Quality are the three main sole grounds on which government will mainly focus as of now. Thus the priority of union government will be ‘Outcome based education’. For raising the accreditation system, the Union Government HRD minister asked the institutions like IITs and IIMs to be member of NAAC Accreditation as to evaluate its working and results in every five years. He also mentioned that Government had taken several initiatives like ‘Smart India Hackathon’, Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM), ‘Atal Tinkering Labs’ and ‘National Digital Library’ for the college going students. Now around 23 lakh students and other general public who are learning from ‘SWAYAM’. Whereas National Digital Library includes 1 crore 65 lakh books are available. India has the world’s largest hackathon, which is one of the unique innovations which are getting tremendous feedback. An appeal to the students was made by Governor Smt. Mridula Sinha as to take care of parents and to become a good citizen. She also added that cleanliness is another point on which everybody needs to pay their attention. That for the first time ever in the history of Goa University, at one time 10,000 students were conferred their degrees. Also among them total 8,313 are Bachelor Degree holders, whereas 1,625 are Master’s Degree holders and the rest 39 are Ph.D. holders. At the end the HRD minister quoted that “The panel has prepared the draft of the policy which has five pillars namely accessibility, affordability, equity, quality and accountability”.
