Editorials News | May-12-2018
Internet has a great influence in our lives. But we should not forget that the use of internet is both a boon and bane simultaneously. It has been seen that internet and anonymity in the virtual world are highly being misused these days, more often by the younger generations. Keeping in mind this scenario, lately the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) has issued guidelines concerning cyber security and safety to schools and parents.
These guidelines include: limited access to the computer labs; no use of USBs like pen drives; blocking of pop ups and checkingthe appearance of new and unusual icons on the computer desktop. The NCERT believes that parents and teachers both need to play an important role in encouraging safe, legal, and ethical use of internet by students. It is necessary for parents and teachers to educate children about cyber- bullying. Children should be strictly warned not to indulge in conversations with cyber- bullies as this could be extremely harassing and dangerous for their young minds.
As per these guidelines issued there should be built in filters in order to prevent harassment through e-mail or instant messaging. Parents at home and teachers in school should keep a constant check upon the online activities of young children. It is important for students to understand that they should never indulge in personally meeting anonymous people that they have known only in the virtual world. Additionally, it is also important for children to learn the difference between public and private life. They must be taught not to do any such thingonline that should not be done in the presence of others.
