After facing various ups and downs, the Volleyball Federation of India is going to begin the Volleyball league this year in September. It will start in September soon after the Asian games and will be called Pro Volleyball.
According to the sources, six teams will be the part of the first edition of the league and it will be played at two centres, one in the north and one in the south. Also, it will follow the caravan format of Pro Kabaddi league. The league is supposed to have auctions and also a draft. Through draft International payers will be picked for keeping price control. The cap of the Indian player is estimated to be approximately 75 lakhs that will be picked via an auction. The new CEO is appointed by league, Joy Bhattachariya who was earlier the Director of the IPL franchise KKR for first seven years. Earlier to that he was the Project director for the recently-concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup. In the year 2016, the launch of Volleyball league was announced in India, but three days later the idea was seen scuppered by another Volleyball league that found support from a faction of within the VFI. Later after various issues, court proceedings and the federation itself is in the state of civil war and there after stability was restored. The League begins this year after fresh elections that were held. The Sports Ministry granted VFI recognition in July 2017.
