Tamil Nadu’s Education Minister Aims to Set Up 200 Atal Tinkering Labs

Atal Tinkering Labs is a Government Project as are set up as dedicated work spaces where students from class 6^th to Class 12^th in the country may learn innovative skills and develop ideas that will help in the transformation of India. Labs are powered to accustom the students with state of the art equipment such as robotics, tools related to electronic development, 3D printers, sensors etc. The main reason behind the setup of these labs is to motivate the students for their own imaginations, and go beyond their regular courses and curriculum derived from their text books.

The labs will help the students to analyze the skills of future like Automation, neural networks, blueprints, architectural formations.  ATL is NITI Aayog’s flagship initiative to promote culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the country. Its sole purpose is to create umbrella structure to guide innovative system of the country and revolutionaries innovative ecosystem. That recently, the State Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Shri KA Sangottaiaan approved the decision to set up Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) in 500 schools across Tamil Nadu in another three months. To a question asked upon the new curriculum for various standards, the Education Minister stated that the process of framing it for classes 2 to 8 and for classes 9 and 12 would begin soon. Speaking to the PTI on the sidelines of a function to felicitate teachers and schools which secured 100 per cent results in board examinations, the minister stated that the state held discussions with the Centre on setting up of the labs. He further stated that such labs would help students familiarize themselves with the latest technologies and get a chance to work with tools and equipments to understand the concepts of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
