The CBSE Compendium Of Courses Does Not Mention Careers In The Armed Forces
Editorials News | Apr-21-2019
The CBSE has recently launched a compendium of academic courses that students can follow after class XII, but there has been no mention of the opportunities that the military offers them right after Plus Two.
He said that there are 113 areas where students can obtain higher education according to their own interests. He also gave full details about the educational institutions. The idea of the compendium, however, was to generate curiosity in the students to explore the possibilities beyond these courses. The omission of careers in the armed forces surprised many.
No mention was made of the number of defense-related courses offered by institutions run by armed forces, including the conventional courses B Tech and B Sc. There are courses such as BA defense and strategic studies offered by many private institutions.
When asked why it is necessary for the CBSE to mention even these courses, A Surendren, director of the Chennai defense academy, education is offered free of charge and with guaranteed job opportunities. "Once a candidate completes the graduation in any of the institutions of the armed forces, he is assigned as a commissioned officer. "It is important for a national board like CBSE to sensitize students about the possibilities offered by the armed forces," he said.
"Considering the lower employment opportunities in many of the engineering fields, the CBSE should consider adding education to children about the opportunities offered by the armed forces," said commander C wing Gunasekaran, official commander of the air squadron 3 TN (air wing), Trichy. Joining institutions in the armed forces required additional preparation for at least one year before your Plus Two. Students in schools need to be trained in this area, he said.
In saying that steps should be taken to inform CBSE about this, M Porselvi, director of Akara World School (CBSE), Trichy, said that when most children are obsessed with medicine or engineering, the level of awareness is, in effect, fewer opportunities in the armed forces. Appreciating CBSE for such a move, Major General (retired) NRK Babu said that this comprehensive document has been prepared after a great thought to help the children find their way.
