The Great Gama: First Indian Wrestler

Ghulam Mohammad Baksh was born on 22nd May, 1878 in Amritsar, Punjab of British India. He is still remembered by his ring name THE GREAT GAMA. He was a wrestler in British India and later Pakistan. He had a successful and undefeated career spanning for more than 52 years.
Gama Pahalwan was awarded with the Indian version of the World Heavyweight Championship on 15th October, 1910. Nobody can reach his level of excellence in wrestling field. He is one of the great wrestlers of all time. The Great Gama was born into a family of wrestlers. During his training he practiced five thousand squats and three thousand pushups. Gama’s used to consume 4 gallons (15 liters) of milk daily.
A diet with high protein and high energy helped him accumulate a lot of muscle mass. He had his first wrestling fight with Raheem Bakhsh Sultani Wala who was another Muslim wrestler from Gujranwala at the age of 17. Bruce Lee followed Gama’s training routine to be one of the best wrestlers.
