Editorials News | Sep-07-2018
Roshan Lal, a 40-year old rickshaw puller admitted his son into a government school in Delhi with not such high hopes. But, he now looks quite content considering his son is doing well in school and learning new things which he hadn't thought of. He is happy to hear that some of his teachers are even trained outside of India.
Yes, that's right! More than 1000 government schools in Delhi have sent their teachers and principals to Singapore and Finland for training. These countries are known for their world class teaching methods. This has definitely improved the quality of education in government schools which are famous for poor standards of rote learning.
"It is good to know that government schools are competing with private schools as we can't afford private schools", he added. The infrastructure of government schools have also improved with fresh coat of paint being found on many walls.
Another parent Raju Yadav, a small shop owner in Laxmi Nagar, is also pleased to know about the training of teachers. AAP made improvements in education system their priority when they came into power in 2015.
Delhi's Education Minister Manish Sisodia said that expenditure on health and education is not an expense but an investment, when he doubles the expenditure of government on education. He said that their goal is to train teachers at the best institutions in the world like Cambridge, Oxford and Harvard.
