What is Drone Racing?

Drone racing is a type of sport where drone pilots strive each other for building extremely fast and also agile multi-rotors that are otherwise known as drones for flying around a set course as fast as possible. Drone races are speeding up and now almost all drone races today are being done by using FPV (First Person View) systems.

FPV is a type of drone flying where there are some pilots who use cameras for flying drones as if they were sitting in some cockpit. Some pilots fly using FPV monitors, whereas there are others that use specialized FPV goggles for giving them a more immersive experience.

FPV flying was formerly done using RC Planes, but in these recent years, multi-rotor drones have been extremely popular and much more stable, easier for flying, and further more agile than RC planes. All of these has made multi-rotor drones one of the perfect platforms for FPV flying. From late 2013 to 2015, people have begun making FPV drones that were much smaller than that was considered the standard.

This enabled them to be even more maneuverable than before while along with it being able to fit through tighter spaces and hold up better in crashes. After flying such mini FPV drones, it was apparent that FPV Drone racing was further going for becoming extremely popular in the future.

Drone racing is already taking its pace to take off, but it is believed that it’s still at it’s infancy and early stage, and what we’re doing right now is “nothing” as compared to what drone racing will eventually become years down the road.
