What is impeachment in schools?
Education News | Feb-01-2023
A disciplinary procedure used in schools is impeachment, in which a student is formally accused of breaking the rules and regulations of the school. The school board may, from time to time, vote to officially impeach a student, which could lead to suspension, expulsion, or other disciplinary action.
Although the procedure for impeaching a student varies from school to school, it typically involves the principal or other school officials investigating the allegations against the student and submitting a recommendation to the school board. The student may be subject to disciplinary action if the school board votes to impeach the student. It is essential to note that school impeachment is uncommon and typically reserved for serious policy violations. Students frequently have other options for discipline, such as suspension or expulsion.
A formal procedure known as impeachment involves accusing a public official of wrongdoing and putting them on trial in front of the legislature or another governing body. In the context of a school setting, impeachment is rarely used. Impeachment rarely applies to schools because they are typically governed by the laws of their state or local government.
However, other methods may be used to hold school boards, administrators, teachers, and other staff members accountable for their actions. School boards, for instance, may adopt resolutions to discipline or reprimand individuals for misconduct. Teachers and administrators who break school rules and regulations could lose their jobs. School boards may take legal action against people who have committed serious crimes in some cases. In a nutshell, individuals can be held accountable in other ways even though impeachment is rarely used in the educational setting.
