What Procedure Is Used To Treat Wastewater?

When wastewater enters the sewage treatment plant, it should be first filtered through bar screens in a process called screening before being discharged into water reservoirs. Screening Large waste items like rags, sticks, cans, plastic bags, napkins, sanitary towels, and so on are separated from wastewater by the bar screen. Screening removes large pieces of trash from wastewater as a result. Occasionally, these substantial pieces of garbage that are caught by the bar screen are taken out.

Grit and Sand Removal The "grit and sand removal tank" forces the wastewater (or sewage) that flows through the bar screen to flow slowly through it. Sand and grit settle to the tank's bottom as a result of the slow flow of wastewater. The tank is periodically cleaned of this grit and sand.

First sedimentation tank The wastewater, also known as sewage, is then pumped into a sedimentation tank, where it is allowed to settle for some time. The sedimentation tank's sloping bottom is where most of the solid organic matter, like feces, settles as sludge. Sludge is the solid component of sewage as a result. The solid organic sludge is separated from the rest of the wastewater in this way by the first sedimentation tank.

Disinfection Before releasing treated water into the distribution system, chemicals like chlorine or ozone may be required. Before the water is released back into the environment, disinfection in wastewater treatment aims to eliminate any harmful microorganisms. Sand layers can also be used to filter the treated wastewater. Sand filtration removes the majority of the treated wastewater's remaining suspended matter.

A facility that collects and treats wastewater from homes and other buildings is known as a wastewater treatment plant. All of the sewage water that is collected is treated at the sewage treatment plant. Screen, sedimentation, and discharge into water reservoirs are the four stages of wastewater treatment. The treatment of a lot of wastewater can take up to two years.
