Academic Leaders Will Be Appointed By Tripura For Improving the Quality of Education

Education and Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that it's not exactly taking coal to Newcastle, but Tripura will appoint "Academic Leaders" and arrange some special training of teachers by national and regional institutions for improving the quality of education in the state.
He also added that the Tripura government has decided to appoint 800 Academic Leaders to closely and precisely supervise the teaching methods and techniques in schools. Before postings them in 58 blocks, they would also be given good training.

The teachers, during the training, would be given financial assistance and other needed support, including laptops.

Mr. Nath said that besides, special training would be given to the 25,000 government teachers in various schools. Their motive is to take Tripura to a significant position in the country in the academic sector within the next three years.

The minister added that Rs. 28 crore has been allotted for the new schemes. He said the state government has also launched a "Natun Disha" (new direction) programme for assessing the academic level of students in classes IIIrd to VIIIth.

He said that the scheme encourages interaction between teachers and parents to improve the quality of education and resolve other academic and non-academic issues. On 3rd March, the minister said that on the first day of the teacher-guardian interactive meet, 218,484 guardians of 3.20 lakh students discussed and resolved numerous issues.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Nath also visited many schools and taken into consideration the interaction. The "Natun Disha" scheme would surely yield positive outcomes and improve the quality of education in Tripura, he added.

He also said that recently, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has trained 40,660 school teachers for making them enable to switch to the NCERT curriculum from the next academic session beginning April.
