Fascinating Facts About Badminton

Badminton is a sport played with racket and a shuttle cock, which is made with feathered on bottom and plastic shell on top. It is played by either two opposing players or teams of two rival players on a court which is divided by a net. Badminton's history can be traced to British India in the 1800s, created by British military while garrison there. The International Badminton Federation which is now known as the Badminton World Federation, established in 1934.
Some Fascinating Badminton Facts:
1. In India, the game existed before 1500 B.C. and was called “Poona”. It was named “Poona” because of its region of origin, which was city “Pune”. It is said that “Poona” means “the game of the city Pune”.
At the beginning of the game was played with the hand, using the palm as a racket. Later on, the hands were reacquired with the legs, something that made this game popular among Indian men but exceedingly difficult for the Indian women. Hence, it was distinct into a men’s and a women’s game.
2. The game of Badminton need a player to have durability, stamina, agility, muscle power, quick reflexes, and speed endurance.
3. Feathers from the left wing of the spur make the best shuttlecocks. 16 feathers are used to make a shuttlecock and it weighs between 4.74 and 5.5 grams.
4. Badminton was introduced in the United States in the late 19th century and became a popular sport in the 1930s. The first official badminton club was The Bath Badminton Club, established in 1877.
5. Badminton was not formerly called badminton. It went by the name Shuttlecock and Battledore. It was ultimately named badminton after the Badminton House in Gloucestershire, England.
6. Indonesia and China won 70% of all Badminton World Federation events.
7. A longest match was played between Sun Jun from China and Peter Rasmussen from Denmark. The duration of this match was 124 minutes.
8. The shortest badminton match only lasted for six minutes.
9. Badminton became an Olympic sport in 1992 at the Barcelona Olympics.
10. Badminton racquets weight between 70 and 95 grams, without including the weight of the strings or grip.
