Interesting and Wacky Facts About Hockey

  1. What is hockey?

Hockey is a team sport in which two teams plays against each other, maneuvering a ball i.e., the hockey puck into two opponent goalpost by using a J- shaped hockey. Each team consists of 11 players in a team that comprises of attackers, defenders and goalkeeper. Attackers try to hit and pass the puck to the opponent team’s goal to score a goal and the defender on other hand defends their goal post form the opponent team form scoring a goal, by counter hitting the ball with their sticks. The goal keeper is the backbone of the team who stops the puck or redirects the puck besides using his stick. Team which scores the maximum goals wins the game.

 

  1. When people started playing hockey?

According to the records reveal that the sport has been around 1363, particularly when Edward 3 put the ban on the sport and many other games in his royal declaration as he thought it is a waste of time. However, historical records reveal that dates far back from 4,000 years ago during the Egyptian include records of playing games by using curved sticks.  The first indoor hockey was played in Montreal, Canada 1875.

 

3 What is Puck?

Puck is a round shape rubber disc which performs same as the ball in ball related games. Hockey Puck has a three inch diameter, and people freeze it before playing it so that it does not bounce at the time of playing the match. First hockey puck was used in 1800 and was made up of cow dung. Bobby Hull is famous in the history of hockey, for fastest hockey puck at about 118 miles per hrs.

 

4. What is shape of Hockey sticks looks like?
