Padmavati – A Legend of All Time!

In case of history, we are never sure what exactly had taken place as the facts get evolved with the devastations of time. Similarly, the story of Rani Padmavati, affectively known as Rani Padmini, is mentioned in various versions, some claims that she was defeated by Ratan Sen in sword fighting that made her marry him, other versions suggest that it was her talking parrot that led to the union of the two lovers.
But there’s one thing that runs common in all the versions that she was a woman of unparallel beauty. And the ‘Johar Kund’ in Chittorgarh fort where Rani Padmavati performed ‘jauhar’ more than seven hundred years ago is a place of significance.
1. Rani Padmavati was a Sri Lankan
The poem Padmavat starts with an exotic description of the kingdom of Simhala-dvipa, Where Padmani lived. Simhala-dvipa falls in the Ceylon of yesteryears and presently it is known as Sri Lanka. According to Jayasi, Padmavati was a “perfect woman” who was such a beautiful woman, that even goddess would desire of. 
2. Rani Padmavati had a talking parrot
It has been written that Padmavati had a talking parrot named Hira-mani; the parrot was one of the closest companion of the princess. Not only with Padmavat Many epics or love poems, including Milton’s Paradise Lost and the Arab poem of Hateem Tai have shown animals or birds speaking the language of the main characters. Hira-mani narrated Padmavati's beauty to Chittor King, Ratan Singh. 
Being completely dazzled by Hira-mani’s account of Padmavati, the king desired to marry the princess and was successful in managing the same, but after a long series of dramatic battles and adventurous trials.
3. King Rana Ratan Singh went to Simhal-dvipa and won her  
Rani Padmavat elaborated briefly that how King Rana Ratan Singh, who did not know about the existence of Simhala-dvipa before the parrot told him, went to be the part of Swayamvar of Princess Padmavati. At Swayamvar he defeated many princess and kings who also sought Padmavati hands on several competitions and won the hand of Princess Padmavati.
4. Padmavati wasn’t the only reason behind Khilji attacking Chittor Fort
Khilji siege of Chittor to get Padmavati as told by in Padmavat. These five ratnas were in demand: A Swan who could sing poems, a gem filled with nectar, a stone called Paras which could revolve anything into gold, one hunter named Shardul who could kill any animal at king’s behest and one large yet royal bird Lagna who could kill small animals and birds with ease.
