Student Engagement Boosted by Arts Integration

As schools continue to search for better models to educate their students, art integration can be recognized as an exciting technique for enhanced students engagement. Integrating art within all the mainstream courses being offered can enable teachers to provide an interesting learning environment. While this way is interesting for students it also involves them more actively plus helps in their comprehension and memorizing of the material.

That is why It has become important for the governments of different countries and independent educational organizations to recognize the power of arts in education.

Arts integration entails adding different types of art, including music, visual arts, drama, and dance, to more central content areas like mathematics, science, History, as well as language arts. It enhances the general learning process, making it more innovative and fun. That is why if students actively participate in creating something artistic concerning the material that they are given, they would be more likely to care about what they are learning.

Increased Motivation and Attendance

Through arts, there is increased motivation and attendance of the students in classes for distinction of the arts. If students are motivated, they are able to attend class and even contribute positively in class discussions. Given such approaches are integrative, creative, and more hands on, the setup of the classroom changes into an environment where learners want to be in.

Many colleges in various countries have incorporated arts integration with excellent results being registered. For instance, Turnaround Arts, presently run by the John F Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, has worked to turn around poor performing schools by offering arts education. Schools in this program work and demonstrate changes in a number of aspects in terms of students’ performance, punctuality, or even the ethos of the classroom in the school.

Challenges and Solutions

As we clearly saw earlier, arts integration has been highlighted to have numerous advantages, and yet the process of practice is not without some difficulties, as we are going to see next. Some of the challenges include Teacher training, curriculum and resources, and budget. However, the following can be mitigated to ensure that schools continue to support arts: a. In conclusion, Arts integration can be easily viewed as one of the most effective strategies for increasing students’ interest and improving their achievements. Real-life learning occurrences enhance affection towards learning and education, hence promoting more than classroom learning. It is evident that the roles of arts in the changes of education system are increasing as many schools incorporate this approach in their system. The incorporation of arts not only enhances students’ learning process but also vests them to practice in the society that embraces the application of creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.
