Taare Zameen par an Amir Khan starrer movie revolves around an 8-year-old kid, Ishan Awasthi (Darsheel Safari) who is suffering from dyslexia. Dyslexia is a medical condition in which a child is unable to process the language and has difficulty in reading and writing, where the common intelligence of the child is not hampered. The movie focuses on the right parenting techniques and also how the correct guidance of peers and teachers can be of help to such students.
Ishan Awasthi was a child who had a different world from those of others, where kids of his age were absorbed in books he was the one who was lost in his imagination, he always had a thing for drawing and creativity but had a problem pronouncing and writing words and letters with similar sounds or pattern. None of his parents were able to recognize the problem young Ishaan was going through, he was always looked at as a notorious kid who just kept playing and had no interest in studying.
The problem with our education system and parents is that they don’t observe the patterns and the problems the child is facing, it is beautifully portrayed in the movie how Ishan’s problem was neglected by the parents and teachers, he was always scolded for the wrong spellings and incorrect solutions to the problems but nobody ever looked deeply to the problems faced by him.
Due to his lack of concentration in classes and repeated bad scores in academics, his parents decided to send him to a hostel, which was again an example of the wrong parenting technique. Most parents shift to this technique while a child is being a little more notorious than he should be, but no parent ever thinks that it could harm the emotional well-being of a kid. The same is shown in the movie as to how Ishan suffers to adapt to the new life of the hostel. The kid who never used to keep shut became silent with no improvement in his academic record.
Later in the movie Amir Khan's character, Ram was introduced when he was appointed as a temporary art teacher at school, who never followed the teaching pattern that is adopted by most teachers, his main motive was to ignite the imagination of the young kids and put them into reality. Ram, when looking at the textbooks of Ishan went on a spree to discover Ishan‘s problem and even found a solution for the same.
The movie was a real guide for the parents and teachers who neglect the students, it even conveys a message that every child is special and should be treated the same. Moreover, no kid ever should be forced to do things against their will, they can be creative or they can be into academics and the choice should be on them and not world-dictating norms.
