Marathons in our country India are in many forms, there are half marathons, ultra-marathons and others that are popping up all over the world and now more and more people are willingly taking part in it. There is an array of reasons for running a marathon: To get fit, for supporting a good cause, for accomplishing a goal, fulfilling your bucket list, or for simply having fun.
Here is the list of best marathons:
1. Tata Mumbai Marathon, Mumbai (TMM)
The Tata Mumbai Marathon that was previously known as Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is an annual or yearly run international marathon that is held in Mumbai, India, on the third Sunday of January every year. It is known as the largest marathon in Asia as well as it is the largest mass participation sporting event on the continent where over 40,000 runners from across the world fill the big streets of Mumbai.
2. Kaveri Trail Marathon, Karnataka
The Kaveri Trail Marathon (KTM) has started near the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary and further follows the river Cauvery’s course. The best part about this marathon trail is that one can spot otters and over 150 species of different birds at the sanctuary. KTM was earlier started in 2007 and is India’s first trail marathon.
3. Airtel Delhi Half Marathon, New Delhi (ADHM)
It was established in 2005, Airtel Delhi Half Marathon is known as the world’s most prestigious marathon that is held in the capital city of India. The Airtel Delhi Half Marathon (ADHM) is usually held in November.
4. Goa River Marathon, Vasco Da Gama, Goa (GRM)
Goa River Marathon (GRM) is a 42-Kilometer long run with a route that walks along the pristine blue waters of the Zuari River in Goa.
5. Auroville Marathon, Puducherry
The Auroville Marathon is a yearly marathon that goes through the city of Dawn Auroville in the state of Tamil Nadu. Originally it was started to celebrate 40 years of Auroville; a township 8 km north of Puducherry (Pondicherry), but the enthusiastic participation attracted many runners from other cities too and it was then decided to make it an annual affair that is purely for the joy of running.
