Invest in Excellence Sports Achievements
General News | May-03-2023
School sports can help the nation's youth become more physically active, which is desperately needed. The Sports & Physical Education (PE) Association of the United Kingdom discusses the significance of investing in sports for students' health and well-being.
You have probably noticed the current debate regarding childhood obesity if you have recently read a newspaper or tuned in to the news. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers childhood obesity to be one of the most significant global public health challenges for the 21st century because it has become such a troubling issue.
The evidence is clear from the numbers. Every year, the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) measures the height and weight of nearly one million schoolchildren in England. According to their most recent report, just over 19% of children between the ages of 10 and 11 are considered obese, and another 14% are considered overweight.
The diet and nutrition of children have received a lot of attention, which may come as no surprise. The majority of children do not consume the five servings of fruit and vegetables per day that are recommended, and the amount of sugar, salt, and fat that children consume has never been higher.
It is evident that children's diets require attention, and several efforts have been made to break the unhealthy eating habit, including The National Healthy Schools Program, which ran from 1998 to 2009 and included the provision of nutritious, healthy foods in school canteens and vending machines; The School Food Plan, which was launched in 2015 and established new standards for all food served in schools, removed unhealthy snacks and drinks from school vending machines and provided children with healthier, more balanced diets. and the recently announced sugar tax, which will be levied on businesses based on the amount of sugar in the energy drinks and fizzy drinks they produce.
Although healthy eating is essential for addressing the obesity problem and ensuring children's long-term health and well-being, it is only half the story. Children's physical activity and exercise require the same attention from us as adults.
