Modernization And India

Indian society is very old and surviving with many ups and downs and social issues. But with the advent of industrialization, urbanization, and various other changes, the whole system is slowly being replaced by a new ideology. So, Modernization is a social process toward various social changes.

Modernization symbolizes advancement. Advancement simply means betterment and moving forward in a positive sense. It does not denote any philosophy or movement but it only symbolizes a process of change. It simply follows to move forward and to get better in terms of many aspects of life like living standards, working style, behavioral pattern, values, morals, principles, technology, education, relationship, educational pattern, etc.

When the people of society get better and advanced in all aspects related to their life, institution, thinking attitudes, and relationships then the society is said to be modernized. In modernization, society tries to innovate and utilize its present and old knowledge, patterns, techniques, and resources. It makes an organization a society more confident, independent, versatile, and self-sufficient.

Modernization makes society realize its uniqueness that can be made better and more advanced than before. Modernization was early only used to refer to change in the economy and its related effect on social values and practices. Modernization can also be described as "social change involving the element of Science and Technology". Scientific and technological innovation have brought about remarkable changes in the whole system of social relationships and installed new ideologies in the place of traditional ones.

Modernization in India has also had a great impact in several ways:
(1) Occupations become more scared and specialized.
(2) Many people engaged in primary education reduces while the secondary and tertiary sector increases.
(3) Barter system was replaced by the money system.
(4) Geographical distances are reduced, and old agriculture tools are replaced by new advanced tools.
(5) Improved Health care facilities, education facilities, etc.
(6) New Institutions introduced like banking, Mass Communication, etc.
(7) Scientific innovation, the establishment of large-scale industries, etc.
(8) Change in families structure and introduction of a middle-class family.
(9) Elimination of various social evils prevalent in our society.
(10) Introduction of new value systems such as equality, justice, individualism, secularism, etc.
