Origin Of Commonwealth Games

Sports & Games are a very popular subject favorited by a huge percentage of the citizens of any nation. Although the reason for liking the game varies but the love for sports and games never changes. Participating and Spectating are two different parts that together make any tournament enjoyable globally. The Spectating of sports and games for entertainment and enjoyment is the soul of sports. One such popular contest which is full of exciting clashes between players and wonderful entertainment is “Commonwealth Games”.

The Commonwealth Games is an international multi-sport event that includes athletes from various nations. Since the beginning, it has been a popular contest and has also be called by many names. From 1930 to 1950, it was known as the “British Empire Games” then from 1954 to 1966, it was called the “British Empire and Commonwealth Games”. After this from 1970 to 1974, it was known as the “British Commonwealth Games”. Finally, in the 1978 Games held in Edmonton, the tournament was renamed as “Commonwealth Games”, as it is known to us now.

The first Commonwealth Games were held in 1930 in Hamilton. This led to the foundation of the organization. The game is held after every 4 years. The Commonwealth Games always had a special place in Scottish Hearts because in 1970 the welcome was given by Scottish people, first gave rise to the description of “The Friendly Games”.

The Commonwealth Games got many achievements by:-
1) Including disabled athletes as full members of the team.
2) Making it the first fully inclusive international multi-sport event.
3) It became the first global sporting platform to feature an equal number of men’s and women’s medal events.

Hence, apart from being a beloved tournament, it also provides great opportunities and it is purely entertainment for spectators and enjoyment for the participants.
