Participation & Contribution of Women in the Indian National Movement

The participation of women in the freedom struggle is believed to be contributed to the latter end of the movement which is contrary to the actual scenario. In 1857, Rani Lakshmi Bai the queen of Jhansi led a rebellion against the British to fight the unjust policy known as the Doctrine of Lapse. So, she formed the crucial example for all women how women can also come to the forefront of the struggle and even fight on the battlefield. Hence, many women came to be known for their courageous acts and fearless attitude.

A Watershed Movement, for increasing women's participation in Revolt, took place which faced resistance from the Swadeshi Movement in the early 1900s. It was because the Swadeshi movement did not contest women's feminity or their traditional role in society. And later after Gandhiji's call for to Satyagraha movement more women broke social constraints to get actively involved in struggles against the British Raj.

The women didn't agree with the modern moderate phase and they were against the reformist zeal of the moderates. They believe if women want to participate in the Nationalist movement, they must have an independent place. Essential works on the national movement mostly fail to examine the significance of women's participation in the freedom struggle.

Women played a critical role in Indian National Movement and fought with true spirit and fearless courage and faced various tortures, exploitation, and hardships to earn us freedom because it was the women who came forward to take responsibility at that time and took charge of the struggles and movements. Hence, without women's dedication and devotion to the service of India, the milestone of Indian Independence can't be achieved.
