Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day
General News | Aug-05-2021
No constructive work is finished in a day. Building anything or accomplishing any job takes time and along with the time it takes perseverance, a strong will and patience, and many times cooperation and joint efforts because no man is an island. This is why it is said that Rome was not built in a day. Impatience and pessimism are the natural impediments in the way of a person who attends a task of any magnitude. He starts with hope and enthusiasm but finding that the task he had undertaken will take much longer than he had anticipated he becomes impatient and tries to finish it faster. Sometimes he/she becomes discouraged. To encourage such persons, to cheer up comes to this old proverb: Rome was not built in a day. To build a great city like Rome not only days but years or even centuries were necessary. No task that is worth doing can be done either quickly or easily. Slow progress should not make us impatient, And we should not lose our hearts.
Suppose you want to become a fine athlete. You devote yourself to practice and think that a little practice will soon make you a first-class football or cricket player. then you find that a lot of practice and hard training is needed, you are discouraged and impatient. So, to you, the proverb says,” Be patient: for Rome was not built in a day”. There is only one drawback to this encouraging proverb. It is sometimes used as an excuse for laziness and lethargy. people begin to think about why to work hard when nothing can be done fast and easily. The lazy and the idler may happily reply when questioned for the lack of progress,” What can be expected? Rome was not built in a day.”
Remember, this proverb is to encourage the people, not to safeguard them against laziness, and remember these lines:
Heights by great men reached and kept
Were not achieved by a single day
They were toiling in the night
While their companions slept
