Should Students Get Limited Access To The Internet

The Internet is a global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. Anyone can communicate with anyone from any part of the world, and find information about anything in just a few seconds using the internet.

It is easy to use, and currently the internet is very affordable. The internet has many advantages for students. The current generation of students use computers to

  • complete their school or college activities to research important information
  • Participate in online sessions, be it for learning new skills, study or exam preparation courses, etc.
  • Communicate with students from other parts of the world and share knowledge.

These and more make the Internet an essential part of a student's education life.

But, as every coin has two sides. With so many advantages, the internet has many disadvantages also. The negative impact of the Internet on students is so profound that many experts believe access to the internet must be restricted. Should students get limited access to the internet?

Limiting the access to the internet for students has become a necessity for these reasons:-

• Unlimited internet will allow the student to become unfocused with their studies.

  • The Internet has unlimited access to R-rated content. Restricting the content is nigh to impossible. Such content corrupts a student’s mind. It will lead them to do negative activities which can cause negativity in society.
  • Another reason is to limit students' ability to cyber-bully other students. Numerous incidents show that students use School Internet Access to bully other students. If we limit the use of the internet, we also lessen the effect of bullying.
  • Internet access could allow accessing violent content, such as school shootings.
  • The addiction to the internet is harmful to their studies. Spending too much time on the Internet could lead to health problems, a new study reports. Heavy Internet use appears to put teens at serious risk of high blood pressure. Internet addiction can wreak havoc on your sleep as you are unable to resist turning off your computer. Even if you try to sleep, exposure to the glow of a computer screen can inhibit your ability to fall asleep and experience high-quality sleep by decreasing melatonin levels. Online games on the internet can be addictive to teenagers. This can take away your precious time that should be used for other things more productive.

Spending hours surfing the internet, engaging on social networks, and playing online games can drastically inhibit the physical development of a child. But to the question ‘should students get limited access to the internet?’

The amount of time the students use the internet depends on the kind of content students search on it. Parents and teachers must monitor their activities and can set up restricting protocols on R-rated content. With proper precautions and good internet usage practice, students can benefit a lot from the internet.
