The Role of Parents in Developing Emotional Intelligence

Parents are key figures with the lion’s share in helping their children develop EI. Self-awareness, the ability to identify, interpret, and regulate emotions, is needed to create positive interactions, make good choices, and cope with problems. There are several sources of EI, where the first one is embedded in early childhood, and parents are seen as models. Parents model how to handle anger and other forms of worries, and through proper communication, parents inculcate the correct and healthy methods of handling anger in children. For instance, way that parents avoid aggression while solving problems or swearing teaches children nonviolent ways of handling emotions. To develop children’s EI, parents should help their children to express their feelings. Explaining to kids what they are feeling is not something that should be embarrassing also allows them to identify the feelings they have. Assuring their account and orientating them to a solution enhances them to develop stronger emotional references. Teaching empathy, as well, is a crucial factor. In doing so, parents should describe emotions in the characters or events in order to make children grasp the concept behind the word. These conversation promotes empathy and social awareness. According to the data, some of the children need consistent support and guidance. Through caring for their child’s emotions and through patience, parents prepare their child for sound emotional education. Finally, parents are the key determining people who produce emotionally intelligent people and provide adequate skills for successfully facing life challenges.
