Traffic Problem in Mumbai and Its Solution
General News | Jan-05-2021
Bombay or present-day Mumbai is a busy and bustling metropolitan city located in Maharashtra. It is a special city as it is also the home to three UNESCO World Heritage sites. It is one of the most developed cities of India as many companies have their headquarters here.
Due to so much development, growth, urbanization and modernization this city are considered to have the worst traffic level worldwide. The main reasons for it can be:
- The number of vehicles is much more than the road’s capacity to deal with. This is because the majority of the people have and travel with their own personal vehicles. There are around two to three cars per family. This problem can be solved by using and supporting public transportation systems or doing a carpool.
- In Mumbai, most of the people or vehicles on roads don’t move with a constant or fixed speed. As a result, it leads to slow-moving traffic and jam is caused. Therefore, this major problem can be sorted out by maintaining an appropriate speed which is higher than the lowest speed limit and lower than the highest speed limit.
- Parking on roadsides is a great problem. Parking on roadsides can make the roads narrower and fewer vehicles will be able to move. The driver should understand that even if he has to pay some extra sum of money to park his vehicle in proper parking space, still at least he won’t face problem in taking his car out for going.
- Natural calamities in Mumbai can usually not be predicted. Floods, heavy rains etc. can block drains and can cause overflowing of drains. This can in turn cause traffic. Thus, drains should be cleaned at regular intervals by the municipal authorities.
Therefore, it all depends on us. We only have to be the change we wish to see in the world.
