Around 1.10 Lakh Students To Secure Admission Under RTE

Education is the basic need for every nation. It is extremely important for a country to impart quality education to its citizens. Education is essential for the all round development, growth of an individual’s personality. The Government keeps putting forward various initiatives time and again in order to better the quality of education in the country.

In the present year, the government of Gujarat has aimed to grant admission to 1.10 lakh students under the Right to Education Act (RTE). The government of Gujarat has increased the number of seats under Right to Education (RTE) by around 75% for students who fall under the ST, SC, OBC and general categories and under an income slab of Rs. 1, 50, 000 in cities and Rs. 1, 20, 000 in rural areas. This is aimed to pave way for more than one lakh students to acquire admission under RTE as against 60,000 in the previous year. Students can start applying for the admissions beginning April 5, 2019. The application process shall be in the online mode only. The last date for filling the admission forms is April 15, 2019. After filing the application form, the students need to submit it at the receiving centre along with other essential documents by April 16^th. Once the forms and the necessary documents are submitted, the officials of the education department shall scrutinize these forms and those students who have provided correct documents shall be eligible for admission to the private schools of the state. In order to know more about the receiving centres and their addresses, the students shall have to refer to the RTE website. Basically, receiving centres are those schools where the students can deposit their RTE application forms. Those students can take admission under RTE who belong to families of the lower income groups. The government has set the annual family income for the students of the non reserved categories as Rs.1.10 lakh for rural students and up to Rs. 1.50 lakh for urban students. However, it is evident that admission of students in the CBSE schools will be delayed, as the academic year of CBSE schools will commence on April 4, whereas the process of admissions under RTE will begin on April 5. This initiative of the government has been appreciated and praised by the experts. On the other hand, the idea of fixing one income slab for all categories — Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC), Other Backward Caste (OBC) and General were not liked by the experts.
