A fort that dated back to the era of Alfred the Great and is 1000 years old has been unearthed in Scotland. It was thought to have been completely destroyed and it got identified after 200 years. This ancient fort was built by the Picts.
Picts were basically a loose confederation of tribes who lived in a place which is now known as Scotland. They were present during the Dark Ages. The fort seemed to be a major source of power for the Pictish Kingdom between A.D. 500 and 1000. A town was built over the ancient fort known as Burghead Fort. Most archaeologists thought that the last remaining pieces of fort were destroyed at that time.
Major structures have been revealed beneath the town through the new archaeological excavations. A rare coin has been found that dated back to the time of English king Alfred the Great.
