Imparting quality education is the need of the hour in India. If India wants to grow, it has to promote education in the best possible ways. In order to improve the standard of education imparted in India, the CBSE and the government keeps bringing about new reforms and changes in the education system time and again.
Lately, the government of Delhi has directed the schools to adhere to the provision laid down in the Right to Education Act (RTE) in respect of mandatory 220 working days in an academic year for upper primary classes. These directions have been issued to all the state run and private schools run by the government. In a communication made by the Directorate of Education to the school principals, all Delhi based state run and private schools have been directed to conduct classes for a mandatory number of 220 days in an academic year. The communication stated that it is the sole responsibility of the school management to ensure that classes are conducted for a total of 220 days every academic year. The school management has to plan its calendar of holidays accordingly and shall approve it well within time. The head of the schools have to put forward an undertaking to the education department stating that they shall abide by the Right to Education Act and shall fulfil the requirement of conducting classes for 220 days in an academic year. This new initiative put forward by the government shall inspire the students and the teachers to work hard and make full use of the 220 working days. One of the official from the department emphasising the importance of education stated that school is the only place where the students are well connected with the academics and hence increasing the number of working days shall definitely prove to be beneficial for the students. The school authorities should indeed understand the importance of education and should make the best use of this direction. They must understand that more working days means more training and teaching for the students. The school authorities have been given the freedom to design the activities for the working days as per their own convenience. The department also stated that the parents have requested in the parent teacher meetings that the students must be made more attached to the schools. It is definitely better for the students to spend more time in school’s educational environment.
