Science Facts That Make Us Gasp

We learn about some serious science facts in schools and high schools that include traditional subjects revolving around physics, chemistry, biology and science revolving around the life, earth, space and various human sciences. While most of the public image of science education seems to be one of simply learning facts by rote, however, that’s not the case anymore. In recent years, teaching science from the primary classes has become more concentrated on teaching science concepts and addressing misconceptions at the same time. Children from an early age are now engaged in scientific experiments according to their standards and this does give children the pleasure of discovering new things, makes them curious to know how things work, and makes their mind inquisitive as well as creative. This process of taking the children through step by step of discovery is more beneficial in terms of grasping the concept rather than the traditional method of putting in front of the students not with the problem but with the finished solution which actually deprived them of the excitement and pleasure of discovery. The old Method was really in a way shutting off the creative impulse and reducing the adventurous nature of humans especially those of young kids into the dusty heap of formulas and theorems.

However, the spectrum of science is so vast that it is next to impossible to know everything. Every simple thing that we do or see in our daily lives is a part of science and most often we do not even bother about things as doing them has become a second nature, for example things about the human body. We go about our daily lives, eating, sleeping, bathing etc but we seldom think about our DNA and the astounding fact that the average human body has enough DNA to stretch from the sun to Pluto and back not once not twice but 17 times.

We compulsively wash our hands; keep our home clean not knowing that the human body carries ten times more bacteria cells than the human cells. Hard to believe right, believe it. However, good news is that most of these bacteria are good and helpful and we couldn't possibly survive without them.

We are scared of acid rains and stay away from corrosive materials but we carry the highly corrosive hydrochloric acid with a ph of 2 to 3 that is strong enough to dissolve metal like stainless steel. However, our stomach muscles protects itself by secreting an alkali bicarbonate solution and renewing the stomach lining every 4 days.

Do you know that an average active person walks about 7500 steps in a day? If one maintains this daily average by 80 years he/she will have walked about 216,262,500 steps in his/her lifetime which calculated stands to 110,000 miles equivalent to walking 5 times around the Earth o find on the Equator.

Amazing,  hard to believe right? Well there are many more to discover.
