Is Depression A Disease?

Depression is a mood disorder that involves a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It is different from the mood fluctuation that people regularly experience as a part of life. Major life events, such as bereavement or the loss of jobs can lead to trusted source depression. However, the doctor only considers the feeling of grief to be part of depression if they persist. Depression is an ongoing problem, not a passing one. It consists of episodes during which the symptom last for at least 2 weeks. Depression can last for several weeks, months, or years. The signs and symptoms of depression can include:

(1) When a person has a sad mood or depressed mood he/she will not be able to focus on any kind of work.
(2) When a person's interest gets reduced or pleasure in activities once enjoyed.
(3) When a person is sleeping for too much longer or if the person is not taking the proper sleep or in simple words taking a very little sleep.
(4) When a person gains his her weight or loses his weight unintentionally.
(5) When a person loses all his/her sexual desires.
(6) When a person gets a feeling worthless or felt guilty.
(7) When a person got agitated restless and pacing up and down.
(8) When a person continuously gets the thoughts of death or committing suicide or an attempt of suicide.

Depression is nearly twice as a common trusted source among women as men, according to the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). According to 9% of men in the United States have feelings of depression and anxiety, according to American Psychological Association. Males with depression are more likely than females to drink alcohol in excess, display anger, and engage in risk-taking as a result of the disorder. The time of college can be stressful, and the person may be dealing with other lifestyles, cultures, and experiences for the first time. Some students have difficulty in coping with these changes, and they may develop depression anxiety, or both as a result. In these types of situations, a person should immediately take medical service because this is a critical disease.

Therefore, several ways by which people can reduce depression or cure this disease are:
(1) There are various therapies and meditations which help in curing depression.
(2) The person should talk to someone about his feeling and focus on a balanced diet. Including green vegetables and fruits in the diet will help to a great extent.
(3) Regular exercise and exposure to adequate sunlight also reduce the symptom of depression.

Depression is an illness that many people don't talk about. People hesitate to contact a psychiatrist for treatment. This should not happen we must understand that like our body gets ill our mood too can get illness and it can be treated as well. With proper treatment, many depressed people can live happy life. So we should not hide the pain inside us we should talk to two people and share our pain that will help in reducing our depression.
