Importance of Net in Basketball

The objective of playing basketball is for putting the ball through the hoop, which is at a superficial level and it may also seem like that the net which is hanging from the rim is serving no purpose. But this couldn't be further far from the truth. Basketball rules are also requiring the netting as it serves an important visual purpose within the game.

Basketball is an interesting sport and its popularity is rapidly increasing by the time but still we see that few people are totally unaware of facts and importance of net in sports.

The purpose of the net in basketball is for simply making it easier for the players, officials and fans for telling when the ball has surpassed through the rim. The net makes it easy for people to view it without any fail. If a ball of the game sails through a net-less rim it might even appear like an air ball or missed shot. The NBA and NCAA rules both clearly have stated that the net shall be constructed to check the ball momentarily as it passes through the basket. This further explains that the net must be intact enough that the basketball pushes its way through, providing a clear visual indicator that a basket has been scored.
