Largest CTET Exam with More Than 16 Lakh Applicants

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted twice every year as per the guidelines laid down by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India. The main aim behind the conduct of this exam was to improvise the standards of teachers and teaching in India. This exam is to recruit teachers for the Kendriya Vidyalayas Sangathan and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. The minimum eligibility for taking this exam is as follows:
(i) The applicants must be a citizen of India to be eligible for CTET.
(ii) Although, there is no age restriction, however, candidate must be minimum 17 years of age.
(iii) The candidate will have to fulfill different eligibility according to their wish to be a Primary or Elementary Teacher.
The basic eligibility for the exam is a graduation or a 2-year diploma in elementary education with minimum 45-50% marks. The exam consists of 2 papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is of the duration of 2.5 hours and around 150 questions are asked in that paper. On the other hand, Paper II is also of 2.5 hours consisting of 150 questions. The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education Delhi. In the year 2018, the exam was conducted on Sunday, November 9, 2018. The exam was conducted in over 2144 centres in 92 cities across the country. Almost 16,91,088 candidates appeared in the examination. Out of the total applicants, 58 per cent candidates were female, 33,107-differently abled and 199-transgender. As CBSE is responsible for the administration of this exam, resultantly CBSE made all the necessary arrangements such as 2144 examination centres were set up for paper 1 and around 1892 examination centres for paper 2 across the country. CBSE had deployed 100 city coordinators, 2296 centre superintendents, 3208 observers, and 730 officers/ officials. From the present year the candidates shall be provided with a digital certificate. This initiative has been taken by CBSE in order to save huge sum of rupees and precious resources such as paper, trees, water and most importantly large scale carbon emissions (sic). The students will be able to download the marksheets and certificates with the help of encrypted QR code that can be easily downloaded with the help of login credentials that will be made available to the students by the Board.
