Mistakes Not Be Made In Education
Editorials News | Jan-23-2019
Education is an important element in every student’s life. But we must take care of our mistakes in education. We sometimes forget that learning is fun. If we take learning as a fun activity, it becomes easier. Classifying failure is another big mistake that people make. Failure is to be accepted and there must be learning from it.
People consider children like little adults which is not correct. They are children with a children’s mind and we must consider it that way. One must not gamify compliance to institutional policies. Instead social change and disruptive creativity must be given importance. Also, people must not place students on the periphery when we design, plan, and respond to their learning. It is seen that people usually assume all kids need to know the same things but we must understand that different kids have different abilities. Some must be good in one thing however others must be good in other things. One must ensure community involvement in every layer of the system of teaching and learning to ensure better results. Mostly one fails to recruit African American and Latino teachers with forward thinking which is a loss to us overall. It is high time we stop planning backwards from standards like starting school at 7 o’clock in the morning. We must also understand that building big schools and expect personalization is not a solution. Having big schools in big districts and then expecting innovation is a mistake. Not only this we must also take care that we do not prioritize uniformity and then expect creativity. One must not only teach content but pay attention to thinking. There is nothing like bad or good teacher so one must not put the best teachers in the worst schools. One must not misunderstand concepts and models because that could change everything. One must also not reduce understanding to letters and numbers and not only talk about ideas instead of the effects of those ideas. A thought must be given to those ideas as well. Do not only value answers over questions. One must not say that they value depth over breadth, but better have policies and systems in place that imply the opposite. People think that mobile learning is not that significant but it is central to education’s future. People must look forward and not backwards to grow. They must not really believe that every student is capable to master every single academic standard. Schools must not be made in a way that they look less like museums and more like corporate offices. Curriculum, assessment, instruction, and technology must not be separated but must go hand in hand. Do not under-value relationships with students.
