New Name for NHL

Seattle wanted to bring an NHL expansion team to its town. The NHL has finally taken decision to have a 32nd NHL franchise in Seattle. Most likely, in January, the website DetroitHocket.net revealed online domains for 13 prospective team nicknames had been registered in the name of an attorney with Oak View Group. However, there will be complications in order to reach to a decision. A lot of names have been suggested for the new Seattle franchise, but the name ‘The Metropolitans’ has garnered a lot of attention.

The team's actual name and colour scheme is not out. It is a big and exciting thing for Seattle is get another franchise especially after the ugly absconding of the Supersonics to Oklahoma City, so the name has to be reflective of the city the team is playing in while still being a good hockey name. The top 15 of the best suggestions include ‘Seattle Steelheads’ that comes from Seattle's 1940s team in the West Negro Baseball League. This name is a mixture of history, culture and smooth alliteration. ‘Seattle Skyline’ is another suggestion which is crisp and elegant that acts as both a singular and plural reference to the team. The logo could be spectacular. A longer name, ‘Seattle Metropolitans’ will be like thanking to an entire division being named the Metropolitan. It just seems to work, though, not only as another reference to the city but in the way it rolls off the tongue. Call them the Metros for short. ‘Seattle Snowcaps’ is another cool one. There is a depiction of Mount Rainier in the logo and it is somehow the best weather-appropriate ice hockey name this side of the Colorado Avalanche. ‘Seattle Thunderbirds’ and ‘Seattle Nighthawks’ are other options where the former is Seattle's junior hockey team. ‘Seattle Sasquatches’ is an effort for uniqueness. ‘Seattle Kraken’ refers to the jerseys here which maybe a little different and have Kraken tentacles extending toward the sleeves. ‘Seattle Thunder’ is one option which is short and sweet but the thunder is also what the Supersonics turned into when they moved to OKC, so it might be tough for some Seattle fans to root for a team with that name.  ‘Seattle Pilots’ and ‘Seattle Skyscrapers’ are other options where ‘Skyscrapers’ sounds too long and clunky and Pilots were Seattle's first-ever Major League Baseball team. It's not a particularly exciting name, though. ‘Seattle Thunderwolves’ sound weird like Timberwolve. Other suggestions are ‘Seattle Grinders’, ‘Seattle Neon Warriors’ and ‘Seattle Grunge’. ‘Seattle Grinders’ are double-edged sword here with the reference to Seattle coffee and a gritty sport. That's some good marketing material. However ‘Seattle Neon Warriors’ comes off like ‘Golden Knights’.
