The Essence Of The Article 15 Of The Indian Constitution

What is a Constitution and why do we need a constitution? A constitution is a body of fundamental principles or established guidelines according to which a country or any organization is acknowledged to be governed. Every democratic country needs a constitution, because the constitution tells us the fundamental nature of our society. The constitution is a set of rules and principles based upon which a country is governed and these set of guidelines and principles are agreed upon by all persons in a country.

The constitution of India is the supreme law of India that lays down the framework demarcating fundamental political code, structures and procedures, powers and duties of governmental institutions, and it sets out the fundamental rights and duties and directive principles of not just the governing bodies but those of the citizens of this country as well. The Indian constitution is also the longest written constitution of any country on this globe. Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar was the chairman of the drafting committee and is considered to be the chief architect of this great written constitution.
What are Articles of a Constitution? Articles in the constitution are guidelines and these have similar context in the law to the section mentioned in various acts of the constitution. Articles in the constitution are used to convey an impression that they are more detailed and standard or conventional in expression. The Indian Constitution had 395 articles in 22 parts and 8 schedules at the time of commencement. However, over the years owing to the needs several were added and amended and now it stands at 448 articles in 25 parts and 12 schedules. Till the year 2016 101 amendments have been made in the Indian constitution.
What is the article 15 of the Indian constitution all about? Article 15 of the Indian constitution occurs in the Indian constitution under Part III that deals with the fundamental rights of its citizen of this country. The most important feature of this article is that it prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth of an Indian citizen.
These articles provide that no Indian citizen will be imposed with any kind of restrictions on the grounds of any religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them and that every citizen has the right to access and use public places such as restaurants, shops, hotels, places of public entertainment etc or the use of wells, tanks, bathing Ghats, roads and places of public resort that are either wholly maintained by the state or in collaboration with private companies dedicated to the use of the general public.
However, though the constitution guarantees us these fundamental rights but in reality we have still not being able to benefit from this article in the truest sense. Even in this modern era we Indians have not been able to come out of the shadows of caste, tribe language and religious differences and these issues have caused much unrest, struggle and ill feelings amongst its people. It is time the people of this great sub-continent work towards following one religion and language and that of "Humanity" above all.
