Downsides of Being A Strict Parent
General News | Mar-06-2021
Extremely authoritarian parents may believe that their actions, no matter how harsh, are only benefiting their children. But that’s far from the truth. Continuously nagging a child and forcing certain ways on them can lead the child into anxiety or depression. Lack of a sense of freedom can harm a child. Without realizing it, parents are either raising depressed children or rebels.
A child has the right to make their own choices after a certain age and having overly strict parents who rob them of their rights but make all their decisions and forcing them to work accordingly can only make them miserable. The child loses all kinds of emotional attachment with his/her parents. The pressure of achieving and following rules becomes so heavy that the kids feel resentment against their parents who led them into that state.
The root cause of this problem is the family environment they grow up in. Earlier it was normal when parents put pressure on their kids to exert dominance, and the same tradition is followed by the parents of this generation who believe that they must control their kids to protect them. They refuse to accept the modern way of life and continue to live by the same rules as applied to them when they were young.
Even when a kid tries to confront his/her parents, he/she is mocked by them and called weakly and not smart enough to make their own decisions. When the pressure becomes too much to handle, the child tends to emotionally explode after years of hiding their emotions, and that causes depression among them. They become so emotionally fragile that confiding their emotions and feelings in their mind becomes a habit.
If the parents suggested and helped their children onto the right path rather than forcing them, it would construct a much healthier relationship between them. Children would be more open to their parents and express their emotions freely with them. But controlling the children makes the kids lie at every opportunity, even for the smallest things to save themselves from the taunts and disapproval.
