
Increase in Stress & Anxiety amongst Children

All over the world the most victims of stress and anxiety fall under the category of 16-20. This came more into the limelight after the pandemic when the overall ratio of stress and anxiety increased tremendously. The major reasons for stress and anxiety amongst children are:
1) Virus/Illness: In this pandemic, many children suffered from the virus making them concerned for their lives and well-being.
2) Tensed atmosphere: At home, many children do not have the safe and happy environment that is required for the proper and sane growth of children. To prevent stress parents should maintain a calm and friendly environment at home.
3) Educational pressure: Nothing is changed in our educational system other than the amount of stress put upon students. This stress increases with the increase in expectations and obsession of the adults with their children’s academic success.
4) Bullying: Children tend to be mean to each other and many a time crosses the boundaries by insulting each other which turns into trauma and causes insecurity in the fragile minds of students.
5) Abandonment issues: Children feel isolated when their parents leave for work and their lack of exercise contributes to even less interaction.
Some tips on preventing stress and anxiety among children:
a) Better sleep cycle
b) More physical exercise
c) Journaling and maintaining an emotional diary
d) Therapy and open conversation with parents
e) Spend time with friends and family
There are no set rules to avoid stress but prevention can take place by taking care of them. When the situation gets worse, professional help might be the best option.
