The Reflection of Art in Cultural Value

Art is a way of expressing the identity of a culture. From painting and sculpture to writing and music to drama, cultures convey their values, customs, and past experiences. For instance, traditional paintings, sculptures, or folk dances may portray creation myths, rituals, or ethical standards, hence giving a perception of cultural myths. Art is often seen as the keeper of culture. Language: It maintains traditions, languages, and cultures that may otherwise die out with time. Cultural institutions such as museums and galleries hold significant responsibilities in the protection and preservation of artifacts that reflect the cultures of people. Art can be in some way about or relating to, social issues protesting or questioning the culture of a society.
From the protest art in form of paintings and sculptures, the literary works that attempt to dissect the social injustices, to the musical works that seek to give voice to the suppressed, artists have always sought to use their talents to elicit thought and discussion on the culture of the society. Art is used to shape people’s perception and understanding of reality. From the religious art which adds to the belief system to the realism art that supports political beliefs, or even the pop art which questions conventional knowledge, artworks influence the world by providing another view of the world. This paper reveals that art is a tool or platform through which the world becomes globalized. People use elements from different cultures to develop artworks which are fusions of traditions and styles. This cross-pollination enhances cultural fields and brings knowledge between diversified groups. Art is an essential component of cultural events and activities such as dancing occasions and festoons. Such artistic creations help reassert group membership and maintain cohesion within communities, which in turn perpetuates cultural norms and traditions.
