Improved Standards of Indian Curriculum Schools in Dubai

In a survey conducted by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai, it has been revealed that 73% students attending Indian-curriculum schools in Dubai are getting good quality of education. During the survey 31 Indian curriculum schools out of a total of 35 were inspected by the KHDA. In the present year 21 of these schools were rated as good or better.

Last year only 18 were rated good or better. Amongst the 31 schools surveyed, one school was rated 'outstanding', 15 were rated 'good', five were 'very good', nine were 'acceptable', and one was 'weak'. Ms. Fatma Belrehif, CEO of the Dubai School Inspection Bureau, KHDA stated that the improvement in the quality of education that is being imparted in the Indian curriculum schools in Dubai is clearly evident. It is hoped that this positive change shall improvise student learning, growth, outcomes and achievements in the future. The progress is reflective of the serious approach of the Indian schools situated in Dubai towards the inspection reports, analysis and findings of the inspection authorities. In total 3 schools have improved with respect to the ratings. Two of the schools have advanced from acceptable to good and one has moved from weak to acceptable. A total number of 79,113 students are enrolled in the Indian curriculum schools situated in Dubai. With these figures it can be said that 3 out of 4 students are receiving good or better quality of education. In these schools, seventy-four per cent of the pupils follow a CBSE curriculum; 11 per cent follow CBSE and have a choice to sit for KSB; and 10 per cent follow a CISE/ICSE curriculum. In the last 10 years, the number of Indian schools in Dubai has increased drastically. The increase has been by nearly 67%. The total student population has also increased. It has reached 45%. Those students who wish to follow the Indian school curriculum in Dubai have a wide range of choices with them. These schools offer Indian curriculum at varied fee structures and are affiliated to different school boards. The only school that has been rated as outstanding is “GEMS Modern Academy”. Those that have been rated as good are: The Indian High School, Delhi Private School, GEMS Our Own English High School, The Millennium School, and the Ambassador Kindergarten. The only school that has been labeled as weak is Gulf Model School. Ms. Belrehif stated that the authorized people in Dubai has been conducting these school inspections for over 10 years now.
