Contribution Of Savitribai Phule In Women’s Education

Savitribai Phule was born in Maharashtra in the year 1893. She got married to Jyotirao Phule in her early years and it is only because of her husband that she was able to learn to read and write. She attended school and college in that era in which educating the girls will be considered a sin and people believe that the hand of women can’t handle pen and paper. People criticize her for attending school in the male-dominant surrounding. She becomes one of the first modern feminists in India and worked amazingly for the education and upliftment of women. She was always get supported by her husband and they both started many programs and many colleges for the girl students.

After completing her education she started educating other girls of her region with the help of Shagunabai. Slowly after that Shagunabai, Jyotirao and Savitribai started their first school to impart education at Bhide Wada. The curriculum of their school also includes the western curriculum. And soon they can open three different schools for girls to impart education at the end of 1851. They also opened two educational trusts to support the schools and women's education. They work fiercely to bring development in society and worked to bring women on the same platform as men without any discrimination. Her work is not limited to the development of women but she also worked for the other communities who are in need. She opened a care center for the children and for those women who are victims and not able to nourish their children alone. She was also a great writer and write many to secretly motivate many women with her poems. She also established Mahila Seva Mandal to raise awareness in the society regarding the issues related to women and also try to find out the solution by taking the opinions of others. She also opened shelter homes for the women to prevent them from the cruelty of society. She also started many campaigns against child marriage, opposed Sati Pratha, and advocated the remarriage of the widow.

Savitribai always gets supported by her husband and she continued her amazing work for the welfare of women till her last breath. She gave a new insight to society and show the new undiscovered paths to women of the society to lead further in the future.
