“1 Drop Of Water Can Generate Upto 140 Voltage Of Electricity”
Editorials News | Feb-13-2020
There are several ways of generating electricity. Electricity is an essential part of our life. Using mobile phones, all-electric gadgets like television, micro-wave, Air- conditioner, many kitchen equipment’s and now even the car will run from electricity instead of petrol, diesel or CNG. We all have heard several ways of producing electricity with the various combination of chemical, friction, heat, light, magnetism, and pressure.- Few ways are- hydro, nuclear, solar, wind, geothermal, oil, coal, etc. but we have not heard a proper way of generating electricity with the help of rain.
Yes, scientists- research team from the City University of Hong Kong have established a generator to instantly produce a high voltage from water drops. The generator is based on a field-effect- transistor- style structure.
The scientists informed, a single drop can assemble 140Voltage, which has enough power to concisely light up 100 small LED bulbs. This structure-based generator will foster “thousands” of times more than other generators.
The new design will mix-up with an aluminum electrode with an indium tin oxide electrode layered with PTFE, a material with a "quasi-permanent" electric charge. When the drop strikes PTFE/tin surface, it overpasses the two electrodes and generates a closed-loop circuit. The sustained rainfall can also be handled by technology. The charge assembles and eventually hits the saturation point during the time of continuous drops.
The outcome of this research would assist to harvest water energy to respond to the global problem of renewable energy shortage. Instead of oil and nuclear energy, generating power from raindrops can facilitate the sustainable development of the world; this was the hope of Professor Wang Zuankai from CityU's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Working is still going on to transfer it to a practical product. A short burst of energy is easy- assembling enough of it for continuous power is a different matter. We could place the generators anywhere according to the weather forecast. Rooftops are the best place to place this generator as electric boats could extend their range and electricity can be used wisely. Even from the water bottles and umbrellas, electricity can be generated.
