Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: Global Education Assessment
Editorials News | Sep-24-2018
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has played a very important role in global health and international development and its work on education especially for the developing countries have benefitted millions of children in various parts of the world. However, Bill Gates is rallying for quality school education in the developing nations and urging for more assessment data in order to plan strategies so that not just education but the quality of education could be addressed. Particularly requesting and pushing for more comparable student’s assessment data worldwide with a conscious effort to help the girl child through their schooling. In a recent blog, Girindre Beeharry, director of global education at the Gates foundation announced that they need to put new plans in place because, even though progress has been made in education around the world in the past 15 years, but the access to education has not necessarily translated to better outcomes.
Bill Gates Foundation has channel its resources to not just domestic but lot of International work with focus on healthcare, tackling malaria, HIV and contraceptives and especially towards global education. In June this year, Bill Gates announced a new initiative that will primarily focus on “Global Education Learning”, and have committed $68 million to be used over the next four years to improve the primary and secondary education in India and African countries.
Even though lot of effort has been put to see that children get access to education however, sadly all the reports both collated from the concerned countries as well as UNESCO reports that 600 million students even though are attending school are not even minimally proficient. It is quite a crisis because these students will not be able to make it through the higher classes and eventually drop out.
