Building Violations Reported in 40% of CBSE Schools in TN

School Education Department conducted its first inspection drive to verify infrastructure along with other facilities in CBSE schools. They found that 40% of schools in TN don't have necessary approvals including building safety, fire safety and sanitary certificates.

Out of 1000 schools, there were violations reported in more than 400 schools. Notices have been served to these schools by the chief educational officers. In the Kancheepuram district, out of 202 schools inspected, 80 had a lot of violations. In Chennai, the team inspected 99 schools and except for a few, many of them had some form of violation. According to the provisions mentioned in Right to Education Act, all private schools should get recognition from respective government. But it turns out, in case of TN, that even state government did not push the schools to get any recognition. As a result, many schools don't find it necessary to get building stability certificate and building license certificate etc. that are mandatory for recognition.

The inspection teams looked for no objection certificate from fire and rescue services department, building plan approval, public building license, structural stability certificate etc. Some chief educational officers have issued notices for closure to schools which had several violations. These CBSE schools have come under the fold of school education department now and aren't separate entities, as they used to believe.
