CBSE Draws Criticism Due To Health and Activity Card Format
Editorials News | Aug-10-2018
CBSE has released a 'health and activity card' to keep a record of all activities of Health and Physical Education (HPE). This has attracted criticism from school head due to its difficult process. CBSE has made it compulsory for schools to upload report that will include work done in different HPE areas in a prescribed manner. This will allow students of Class X and Class XII students to sit for their board exams. Here's what 2 school heads had to say about the assessment:
Vandana Shahi, Principal of BCM School Basant Avenue said that it's complicated process but once it is done, it will be quite useful. The HPE will help in resolving the issue of sedentary lifestyle in kids. Jaswinder Sidhu, Principal of DAV School wasn't too happy with the decision. He said that the process is too time-consuming and that they are teachers, not doctors. Plus the idea of uploading a child's personal details without consent of the parents isn't right. The circular should be given a second thought, according to him.
There are various parameters mentioned in the record and each one of them has a corresponding test. To maintain the record, 11 tests need to be done including BMI, Partial Curl up etc. Health component includes flexibility, muscular strength, body composition etc. while skill components include speed, agility, power etc. Full details of the test are mentioned on the CBSE website.
