CBSE Orders October 31 to be Celebrated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in Schools

Recently, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that all schools under its affiliation shall celebrate the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31 on account of the birth anniversary of Shri Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who was born on October 31, 1875, became the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. He was an Indian barrister and statesman, a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and a founding father of the Republic of India.
He organized peasants from Kheda, Borsad, and Bardoli in Gujarat in non-violent civil disobedience against the British Raj, becoming one of the most influential leaders in Gujarat. He played a leading role in the country's struggle for independence and guided its integration into a united, independent nation. In the year 2014, the Government of India introduced a commemoration of Patel, held annually on his birthday, 31 October, and known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day). The circular issued by CBSE stated that “I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensure internal security of my country.” The schools have additionally been asked to hold a pledge ceremony also on October 31 and submit a report briefing about the same. This report has to be submitted latest by November 3, 2018. The link has been provided in the circular itself wherein this report has to be submitted. The main aim behind the observance of this day is remembering the huge and unforgettable contribution of Sardar Patel. Alongside there is a need for the entire nation to join hands and stand united against all foreign pressures and attacks that may break up our country’s unity, integrity and security by any means. CBSE has also declared that it shall organize a “Run for Unity” at its State and district headquarters. All schools have also been asked to participate in this run for unity. All those schools that are unable to participate in this run have been given an option of organizing the run for unity at their school level only.
